Fergus county will have a combined sheriff/coroner office.

The decision Thursday came by a split vote of the three County Commissioners.  According to Chairman Carl Seilstad:

Combining the two positions requires hiring another sheriff’s officer, purchasing another vehicle, and assigning two officers to initially investigate the case at hand.

Thank you for this decision. It just makes sense to eliminate any chance of conflict. Would the new coroner need to be trained? If so, of course, what would be the expense? Since he/she also serves the city; would the expense be divided equally? Thank you.
